Russian Railways (RZD) has ordered 221 locomotives from OOO Ural Locomotives, a joint venture between Siemens and OJSC Sinara Transport Machines.
Siemens is expected to spend over €100m ($123m) to establish a modern freight locomotive production unit in Russia.
In addition, the company will invest €20m ($24m) in expanding its production facilities in the country.
Siemens also signed a memorandum of understanding with RZD for producing regional trains in Russia.
