Germany to Pilot Bombardier's Tramway System Technology

28 May 2010

Bombardier Transportation has signed an agreement with the Augsburg Transport Authority in Germany to install its PRIMOVE system as part of a pilot project.

PRIMOVE is a contactless and catenary-free power transfer technology, according to Bombardier.

The technology is expected to be fitted on a 0.8km section of Line 3.

Bombardier hopes the pilot programme will demonstrate the effectiveness of PRIMOVE for urban rail vehicles.

The system is expected to help in energy management and savings in tramway operations while decreasing wear on parts.

Installation work is scheduled to begin this year.
