Afghanistan Builds Rail Link to Central Asia

27 May 2010

Afghanistan is building a rail line to central Asia with the help of a $165m Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant.

The 75km stretch of railway line will connect Mazar-e-Sharif to the country's northern border with Uzbekistan through Hairatan.

The new railway, scheduled to be completed this year, is expected to link Afghanistan with Uzbekistan's expansive national rail network.
