Queen's Speech Reaffirms UK's High-Speed Rail Network Plans

27 May 2010

The UK's coalition government will ensure the construction of a high-speed rail network in the country as part of a programme of measures for a low-carbon economy.

In a speech delivered to parliament, Queen Elizabeth II said the high-speed rail network bill will be introduced.

The UK Government is also planning to study how to connect the network with the existing High Speed 1 (HS1) Eurostar link between London and the Channel Tunnel.

The proposed rail plan is expected to include links between UK airports, according to the BBC.
