Saudi Arabia Rail Line to Begin Freight Movement This Year

The 1,486km north-south rail line in Saudi Arabia will start freight movement by the end of the year.

The railway, which starts from Hudaitha in Al-Jouf province and passes through Hail, Qassim and Riyadh provinces, will start passenger services in 2013, according to arabnews.com.

The Saudi Railway Company, which is constructing the rail line, has completed 800km of the 1,486km so far and the rest of the construction will be completed soon.

Once completed, the rail line will transport 15,000t of minerals in a single trip with each train having 100 carriages.
