14 May 2010

Switzerland’s national rail operator SBB has awarded Bombardier a CHF1.9bn ($1.7bn) contract to supply 59 high-tech, energy efficient trains.

The Canada-based company is expected to provide internet-enabled, double-decker trains with designated family and business compartments.

The trains are scheduled to begin operations on SBB's long-distance services in 2013, according to businessweek.com.

SBB has an option to order another 100 trains.
