12 May 2010

Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) said its joint venture with ETRHB Haddad has received a €1bn ($1.3bn) contract to construct a rail line in Algeria.

The 185km section of the High Plateau line is expected to run between three different regions in the country.

FCC is expected to lay a 160km-long track, which will be electrified later.

The line will divide into two sections through the town of Relizane-Tiaret and through Tiaret-Tissemsilt.

The €114bn ($147bn) project has been awarded by the Algerian Transport Ministry and is part of the country's infrastructure construction programme.
