London Unveils Transport Strategy

11 May 2010

London mayor Boris Johnson unveiled his new transport strategy for the city yesterday.

The mayor proposed a number of changes to the London transport system to be carried out over the next 20 years.

The changes include upgrades to the Tube, London Overground and investments in the overland rail network by Network Rail.

The transport strategy also seeks the incorporation of Transport for London (TfL) standards into new franchises, supporting train operators in delivering safer stations and bettering customer information coordination between National Rail and TfL.

The Rail and Maritime Transport Union said the proposed transport strategy wants to divert attention from the mayor's multi-billion transport cuts package, which threatens thousands of jobs, ticket office closures and weakens current safety standards.
