DB and SJ to Operate Swedish Rail Services

30 April 2010

Botniatåg has won a six-year contract to operate Norrtåg regional passenger services in Sweden.

Botniatåg is a joint venture of Deutsche Bahn (DB) subsidiary, DB Regio Sverige and the Swedish national passenger operator, SJ.

DB Regio Sverige will manage operational and quality issues, while SJ will look after sales and distribution.

The contract is expected to last until August 2016, with an option for a five-year extension, according to railwaygazette.com.

The project is expected to cover a network of routes in northern Sweden. Its operating costs will come from ticket revenue and funds.

Norrtåg services are scheduled to be able to operate 4.7 million train kilometers a year by 2013.
