28 April 2010

CNR Datong Electric Locomotive has signed an order to deliver 12 two-section electric freight locomotives to the Belarus national railway.

The Chinese firm's 25kV 50Hz BCG-1 electric locomotives are expected to be based on Alstom's Prima family, according to railwaygazette.com.

Rated at 9.6MW, the locomotives have a speed of 120km/h and built-in fault diagnostics and modular components to simplify maintenance.

The national railway has also reached an agreement with China's Ministry of Railway for developing high-speed rail in Belarus.

CNR has designed electric locomotives from 7.2 to 9.6MW for the Chinese domestic market.

Chinese firms are also expected to help with the electrification of 294km of lines in Belarus.
