Orient Express Plans to Widen Peru Rail Network

13 April 2010

Orient Express Hotels is planning to invest $2bn to extend its Peruvian rail network to Brazil.

The lines are expected to extend the company's 500-mile railway in Peru's southern Andes to the Brazilian border.

Orient Express is seeking government grants to construct and operate the 528-mile cargo railway, according to Bloomberg.

The Bermuda-based company completed a $25m upgrade to a rail line in southern Peru in March.

Companies are spending millions of dollars in rail projects in Peru to manage the increasing demand for mineral and agricultural cargo.
