China Signs Cooperation Deals with the US

12 April 2010

The Chinese Ministry of railways has signed cooperation deals with the US state of California and General Electric for the construction of high-speed bullet trains.

The preliminary agreement supports China's plan to export and license high-speed rail expertise to the US.

This includes the supply of technology such as bullet trains, which can travel 215mph, equipment and financing to build high-speed rail lines.

Chinese railroad ministry director Zheng Jian said China would also send engineers and technicians to work in the US if the contracts are signed.

China is expected to spend $300bn on the national network of rail lines in the next three years.
