Russian Railways Signs Track Extension Contract

09 April 2010

Russian Railways has inked a four-way deal on a project to extend a broad-gauge track to Vienna.

The deal will enable Germany-based Roland Berger Strategy Consultants to develop an investment feasibility study for the rail project.

The aim of the project is to connect the railway systems of Central Europe to regions on the Trans-Siberian Railway.

It is expected to pull freight flows to the Asia – Russia – Central Europe route and raise the effectiveness of rail transport in the region.

The other signatories on the agreement were the railway administrations and transport authorities of Austria, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
