US Seeks Extra Funds for High-Speed Rail Programme

08 April 2010

The US Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) said it is seeking $115m in planning and construction project funds for a high-speed intercity passenger rail programme.

The fund-raising move will supplement President Obama's $8bn down-payment to enhance passenger rail in the US.

Under the Appropriations Act, the agency will accept $50m in planning project funds and $65m in residual construction project funds.

The applications and proposals for these funds will be due back to the FRA by May 19.

The selection announcements are scheduled to be made during summer 2010.
