Spanish Light Rail to Get Telvent System

06 April 2010

The new metropolitan light rail system in Spain's Bay of Cadiz will be equipped with a Telvent system to centralise its signalling, communications and security systems.

The Telvent SmartMobility Light Rail Solution is based on the firm's supervisory control and data acquisition system.

Included in the contract is the integration of the operational assistance systems, automatic ticketing systems based on contact-less technology, traveller information systems, closed-circuit television surveillance, light rail signalling and the communications network.

Valued at over €18m ($24.2m), the system will enable operators to adapt the transportation to network demands in real time, while improving safety and security.

The new metropolitan light rail will have 22 stations on its 24km route and is scheduled to become operational by 2011.
