German firm Siemens Mobility will install a traction power supply for Singapore's new driverless Downtown metro line, under a contract with the Land Transport Authority.
The company will supply a medium-voltage traction power supply system and will provide services including project management, manufacture, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of the power supply systems.
The 40km-long 33-station fully underground metro line will directly link the northwestern and eastern parts of the city to the downtown business district and the Marina Bay, significantly cutting travel times.
The line is scheduled to finish in three phases, with the first phase due to finish in 2013, and is expected to carry 500,000 passengers daily.
Siemens will also install inverters in the substations for the traction power supply of DC railways and transfer of the surplus braking energy from the metro trains into the medium-voltage system.
