Virgin Trains Extends Deal with Capgemini

22 March 2010

Virgin Trains in the UK has extended its multi-million pound IT infrastructure contract with Capgemini for another three years.

Capgemini will handle the IT infrastructure supporting business-critical systems at Virgin Trains, including financial systems and operational applications such as crew scheduling and rostering.

The systems are based on over 100 Virgin Trains network servers located in two Capgemini secure data centres in Rotherham, Yorkshire.

The contract also includes desktop and laptop management and support services for about 1,000 workers in 42 locations across the UK from a team at a Capgemini service centre in Inverness.

Virgin Trains head of IT Francis Jellings said the contract has changed over the years.

"The service has changed from being more reliant on people to using automated services, " Jellings said.

Capgemini has recently completed a desktop and laptop environment refresh at Virgin Trains.
