The Adelaide to Darwin line in Australia has been put up for sale by KordaMentha, the receivers of FreightLink.
KordaMentha partner Martin Madden said that after discussions with a number of interested parties the firm is now ready to activate the formal sale process.
Receivers were appointed to the railway's owner and operator FreightLink in November 2008 after the company was unable to carry out a voluntary sale of the railway.
The Adelaide to Darwin railway is used for shipping products from dry and liquid bulk goods to cars and copper-gold concentrate ore.
Repairs are under way on a 100m section of the track north of Alice Springs, which was washed away for the second time earlier this year, according to AAP.
