Hitachi's Class 395 Wins Excellence Award

15 February 2010

Japanese firm Hitachi's unit Hitachi Rail Europe has won the Rolling Stock Excellence Award at the Eversholt Rail Group Rail Business Awards 2009 in London, for its Class 395 trains.

Operating at 140mph, the trains marked the introduction of UK's first high-speed domestic rail service in December 2009.

The trains cut the central London–Kent journey to 37 minutes compared to an average of 80 minutes on existing mainline services.

The new service, delivered six months ahead of schedule, also allows passengers to reach cities like Canterbury and Folkestone from London in an hour.

Now in their 12th year, the Eversholt Rail Group Rail Business Awards recognise excellence in business, technology and engineering.
