Ireland will open its new €106.5m ($146.5m) rail line between Limerick and Galway on the Western Rail Corridor by the end of March, national rail operator Iarnród Éireann has announced.
The line has been non-operational for 30 years and the reopening follows the reconstruction of the Ennis-Athenry line.
Work included renewing 36 miles of track, upgrading signalling systems and building a 90m platform equipped with automatic ticket vending machine, customer information systems and CCTV.
The new route will provide five services each way daily from Monday to Saturday serving Limerick, Ennis, Athenry and Galway, with new stations built at Sixmilebridge, Gort, Ardrahan and Craughwell.
