Germany's Kassel Transport Authority has awarded a €45m ($63m) contract to a consortium of Canadian firm Bombardier and German firm Vossloh Kiepe to supply 18 Flexity Classic trams.
The 32m-long and 2,400mm-wide three-section trams have a capacity of up to 176 passengers with two multi-purpose areas for wheelchairs, prams and bicycles.
Vossloh-Kiepe will equip the vehicles with its propulsion technology as well as handling planning, installing and implementing of the vehicles' electrical equipment.
Delivery of the trams is scheduled for between November 2011 and February 2013.
Bombardier's share of the deal, which includes an option of six more trams, is €30m ($42m).
