Telvent's Priority System Chosen for Morocco Light Rail

04 February 2010

Spanish firm Telvent will deploy its SmartMobility Light Priority System for the new light rail system in Morocco linking the cities of Rabat and Sale.

Based on selective light rail detection through simultaneous use of radio frequency and magnetic induction, the system will help determine the point at which the train is nearing an intersection.

On detection, the system will make the decision to give priority to the light rail train over private transportation on the basis of actual traffic conditions, minimising train delays and undue standstills as well as enhancing safety.

The €2.3m ($3.22m) deal includes developing and installing the management software, traffic regulators and LED-type light rail signalling.

The 18km 32-station line is scheduled to enter operations by 2011.
