Alstom Applauds Rail Investment

01 February 2010

In response to the US Government's recently awarded rail grants, French firm Alstom has said it is ready to bring its extensive experience in high-speed rail to bear on the challenges in the country.

Alstom Transport (North America) president Roelof van Ark said the company has a significant presence in the US, with operations accounting for approximately 13% of the company's total annual revenue.

Applauding the rail investment plan, the company said that high-speed rail can make a significant contribution in the US by creating jobs, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing dependence on foreign oil.

"The company is pleased to see the Administration focusing on the potential of high-speed rail projects to create jobs and related economic development benefits in the US," Ark said.
