Russia Gears Up for Railway Technology Development

29 January 2010

Russian Railways (RZD) has partnered with Russian Technologies State Corporation to jointly develop innovative technologies in the field of railway transportation.

Major focus areas include improving the RZD technical base; developing new energy-efficient and green technologies to be applied in the construction, reconstruction and use of rail transport facilities; and drawing up proposals for developing and improving transport-logistical technologies.

Specifically, the technologies will be developed for improving transport processes and logistics management, rolling stock, security, equipment and high-speed transportation, as well as cost effectiveness of core activities.

Russian Technologies general director Sergei Chemezov said the cooperation will enable managing transport processes to be modernised, and ensure the safety of train transport, while also improving transport logistics.

"Priority tasks are to improve the economic efficiency of RZD's core activities, and develop new structural materials for high-speed rail infrastructure," Chemezov said.
