UK Firm Chosen for S Australia's Rail Electrification

22 January 2010

UK firm Enotrac will carry out the power system study for the rail electrification project of South Australia's Adelaide passenger railway network.

The company will assess the proposed design for the 25kV booster transformer electrification scheme covering loading, power quality and EMC studies.

The electrification is expected to allow the railway to operate a mix of converted 3,000 Class rolling stock and the new 4,000 Class EMUs, which are scheduled to arrive in Adelaide from late 2012.

The contract has been awarded to the state's Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure.

The Adelaide railway covers nearly 250 single-track kilometres over four main lines and two spur lines.
