Thales to Improve Safety in Barcelona Tunnels

The Spanish city of Barcelona's State Agency for Land Transport Infrastructures has signed Thales to upgrade and modernise the metropolitan tunnels of the Barcelona conventional lines.

Under the €6.2m deal, the company will improve safety measures in the tunnels of the 1,540m Tarrasa line and 4,970m Sabadell line, as well as three different sections in Barcelona belonging to suburban train lines.

Work includes refurbishment, replacement or adaptation of existing installations, fitting of emergency signalling, installation of power outlets, emergency lighting, monitoring and control systems for lighting, increased power supply and renewal of electrical infrastructures to enhance security installations.

The project is expected to improve safety in the tunnels to evacuate people in minimal time and facilitate rescue forces in the event of any emergency.
