Infrastructure company edilon)(sedra and chemicals producer Huntsman Polyurethanes have developed a new vibration dampening technology that is claimed to dramatically reduce noise pollution on busy urban transport networks.
The product, Acoustiflex V, is an MDI-based foam (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) and is designed for use in vibration dampening elastomers. It acts as a fastening and cushioning mechanism between rail tracks and the surface materials on which they sit.
The product smooths out any irregularities in a track's surface and eliminates the pervasive, rumbling noise often produced by a moving train as well as reduce the repeated impact of train wheels over time.
The product also helps Edilon Trackelast – a range of flexible pads and mats – increase the lifetime of railway sleepers, according to the companies.
