Alstom Looks for Indian Partner

06 January 2010

French firm Alstom is looking for strategic partnerships in India to tap into the growing Indian rail market and to stay ahead of rivals, according to Reuters.

Alstom Transport president Philippe Mellier said the company had met with potential partners in India and was definitely interested in a venture with Indian Railways or industrial companies like Bharat Heavy Electricals and Bharat Earth Movers.

"There are three new competitors out of China and Russia [China's Southern Railway and Northern Railway groups and Russia's Transmashholding] that did not exist a decade ago and now have gotten quite large," he said.

"The rail sector is getting more competitive, and we must adapt."
