Deal Signed for Jebba-Kano Railway

05 January 2010

Nigeria has awarded an $81.2m (N12.2bn) contract to engineering firm Costain West Africa for the rehabilitation of the Jebba-Kano rail line.

The first phase of the project involves rehabilitating the rail line from Lagos to Jebba and the second phase involves a rail line from Jebba to Kano.

Work is expected to finish in ten months.

The project is part of the government's plans to revitalise national rail transport to reduce pressure on roads and the rate of accidents.
