The French city of Rouen has selected Alstom's Citadis to replace its existing fleet of tramsets.
The $129.5m (€90m) order is for 27 Citadis tramsets, which are 42m long and 2.4m wide and can carry nearly 300 people – over 60% more traffic than the existing tramsets.
The new vehicles feature air conditioning, a video-surveillance system, onboard audio and visual information, better accessibility and will transport a total of 38,300 extra passengers daily.
The new tramsets are 98% recyclable, consume 10% less energy than a traditional tram and will emit 27t less CO2 than those currently in use to meet the city's target of a 75% cut in CO2 emissions by 2050, according to Alstom.
