Siemens to Supply Trains for Russian Winter Olympics

Siemens will supply 38 Desiro type trains to the Russian Railways for use during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

The contract is worth €410m and contains an option for another 16 trains, which could increase the order value to up to €580m.

The trains can reach top speeds of 160kmph and will run on the environmentally friendly rail links that are planned to carry athletes and spectators to and from the airport, the Olympia Park and the various sports venues.

Construction work is in progress around Sochi on the Black Sea with the trains expected to enter service in autumn 2013.
