Train driver and activist Alex Gordon has been chosen as the new president of Britain's biggest specialist transport union RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).
As the most senior lay official in the union, Gordon will now be responsible for maintaining the union's rulebook and presiding over meetings of the union's executive bodies, including the sovereign annual general meeting.
Gordon's term will begin in January 2010 and continue for the next three years.
