French firm Alstom Transport has delivered the first three of six trains ordered by Chilean metro operator Metro de Santiago.
The trains are part of the $48m contract signed in 2008 for 36 rail cars, and will be used on the Metro Line 4 and 4A.
The trains are able to operate in formations of up to six cars with a length of 137m to allow a capacity of 1,560 passengers, with each car being 22.75m long and 2.9m wide.
Based on the METROPOLIS model, the trains feature the autopilot system Urbalis.
The new trains are scheduled to launch in March 2010 and are expected to increase the fleet of the two metro lines by more than 20%.
