Bombardier to Supply 246 Railcars for Shanghai Metro

Bombardier Transportation, along with its Chinese partner, will supply 246 Movia cars for Shanghai Metro Line 12 in China.

The $291m (CNY1.99m) contract has been awarded by Shanghai Shentong Metro Group unit Shanghai Rail Transit Line 12 Development Company, to Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Company.

The contract includes a deal with a consortium of Bombardier Transportation Sweden and Changzhou Railcar Propulsion Engineering R&D Center, which is supplying the traction equipment, with Bombardier's share in the total contract being $138m (CNY941m).

The 41 six-car trains will feature a top speed of 80kmph, Bombardier's MITRAC propulsion technology, passenger information system and video surveillance system.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin 28 months after the contract award and finish in 2014.
