Fujitsu Chosen for London's Freedom Pass

21 December 2009

London Councils, England, has signed Japanese IT firm Fujitsu to manage the production and distribution of over one million new smart card Freedom Passes for 33 London boroughs.

The Freedom Pass is the city's concessionary fares scheme, which allows its citizens aged 60 and above as well as disabled residents to travel free on the city transport including trains, London Underground, trams and the Docklands Light Railway.

The new smart cards will use Oyster as well as Integrated Transport Smartcard Organisation smart card technology and are expected to be issued from early January next year.

The Freedom Pass scheme has been in service for over 20 years and is run by London Councils and financed by the boroughs.
