Spanish city Barcelona has opened a section of its under-construction metro Line 9, the country's first fully automated metro line.
The 4km five-station rail line runs between Can Zam and Can Peixauet and forms the first section of the 49km 50-station Line 9, which is scheduled to be finished in 2014.
The signalling system for the line has been supplied by a joint venture of German firm Siemens Mobility and UK Invensys group unit Dimetronics.
Siemens supplied Trainguard Communication Based Train Control and Vicos CBTC for the line and Dimetronics supplied relay interlocking system Westrace.
The line is owned by infrastructure operator IFERCAT (Infraestructures Ferroviaries De Catalunya) and operated by TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona).
