Oakland Airport Awards $492m APM Contract

Oakland International Airport in the US has awarded a $492m contract for a 3.2-mile automated people mover (APM) connecting Coliseum BART Station and the airport.

California-based Flatiron / Parsons Joint Venture will design and build the APM, while Doppelmayr Cable Car will operate and maintain the airport connector service.

The project will use $70m in federal stimulus money.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010 and is expected to be complete in three-and-a-half years.
