14 December 2009

China has successfully tested the world's fastest train on a new high-speed rail line connecting the city of Wuhan to the south coast.

The fast trains will run at 350kmph on the 1,000km rail line linking Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province, and the southern city of Guangzhou.

The rail line brings down the travel time between the two cities to less than 3h compared with the previous 10h.

The express railway has been built at a cost of more than $16bn (CNY100bn).
