14 December 2009

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has approved a $1.3bn project to build a light rail transit system between Crenshaw and LAX.

The 8.5-mile rail line will run from the Metro Green Line Aviation Station to the Expo Line, now under construction, at Crenshaw and Exposition boulevards. It will cover at least seven stations and is expected to have a travel time of 20mins.

The line will run through the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, Hawthorne and El Segundo before terminating at LAX.

Construction is expected to begin in 2012 and the line is expected to open in 2018.
