Catalan Railways Orders EMUs from Alstom and CAF

Spain's Catalan Railways has placed an order for 24 suburban trains with Alstom and Spanish firm CAF.

The order is worth $228m (€155m) and includes an option for 20 additional trains.

The EMU-type trains have a capacity of 800 passengers and will be used on the 45km rail line linking Barcelona to Vallés in Catalonia, which currently operates 42 trains carrying 60 million passengers annually.

Alstom's share of the deal is worth $114m (€77.5m) to supply 12 trains.
