Norway Receives First Stadler Tram

Swiss group Stadler Rail has delivered the first of 12 Variobahn trams to the Norwegian city of Bergen.

The 100% low-floor tram will be used on the Bybanen light rail line, the first 9.8km section of which is expected to open in mid-2010.

The five-module bi-directional tram is 32.2m long, 650mm wide, has a floor height of 350mm and can accommodate 84 seats and space for 128 people to stand.

The remainder of the fleet is expected to be delivered by late 2010.
