Alstom Transport will install a new interlocking system on the 42km-long Orvieto-Orte section of the Florence-Roma rail line in Italy.
The $30m (€20m) contract by the Italian state-owned railway subsidiary Rete Ferroviaria Italiana is part of the rail infrastructure operator's plans to modernise the country's rail signalling systems.
The new technology will allow the rail operator to centrally control the entire rail line, along with its two stations, three stops and 34 sections of integrated line block, from a single interlocking system.
The technology is expected to increase safety and punctuality on the line.
