Glasgow-Edinburgh Line to See Faster Rail Services

07 December 2009

Transport Scotland has announced a faster rail service between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh that aims to reduce journey times by 33 minutes.

Under the new rail service, which will start from 14 December, trains will stop at fewer stations than the current service.

The winter service linking Glasgow with Edinburgh via Shotts will be an hourly service that will more than double the number of journeys from 28 to 58 on the route and reduce the number of car users on the route.

Transport minister Stewart Stevenson said the new timetable will offer quicker journeys, extra evening services and a more regular departure pattern, delivering major improvements for passengers across Lanarkshire and the Lothians.
