Brazilian Freighter Orders Ten Locomotives from GE

07 December 2009

America Latina Logistica (ALL) in Brazil has ordered ten new AC44i locomotives from GE Transportation to be delivered at the end of 2009 for freight transport.

The Model AC44i locomotives are equipped with GE's unique AC individual-axle traction-control technology that enables them to haul heavier loads by significantly reducing slippage on start-ups, inclines and suboptimal track conditions.

GE Transportation's manufacturing plant in Grove City, Pennsylvania, US has supplied the diesel engines for the locomotives, which feature a dynamic braking system in addition to air brakes to provide smoother handling when hauling heavier loads.

GE Transportation South America, GE Transportation's affiliate facility located in Contagem, Brazil will build the AC44i locomotives.

ALL, with a fleet of more than 1,000 locomotives and 21,000km of railways connecting Brazil and Argentina, operates South America's largest independent general cargo railway.
