Bombardier and German DLR Team up for High-Speed Trains

27 November 2009

Bombardier Transportation has partnered with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) to research and develop next-generation high-speed trains.

The five-year contract requires commissioning of joint research and development work.

The partners will collaborate in areas such as railway vehicle aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, dynamic stability, interior airflows and interior acoustics, lightweight vehicle construction, railway control and safety systems.

DLR plans to open two key test facilities for high-speed vehicle construction – one for tunnel simulation and another for crosswind testing.

The team is expected to build more climate-friendly, efficient, comfortable and lighter express trains in the medium term.
