Plan Submitted for £600m Birmingham New Street Station Revamp

27 November 2009

A planning application for the redevelopment of New Street station in Birmingham has been submitted to the local council.

Consent for the outline planning of the £600m scheme was granted in 2007.

Phase one of the project involves construction of a concourse in the former car park, enclosed by a large atrium.

Preparatory site clearance work for the project began in September 2009, and the concourse is expected to open in 2012.

Phase two will involve the closure of the existing concourse for redevelopment, which is expected to be completed in 2015.
