Myanmar to Build New Rail Link to China

24 November 2009

Myanmar will build a new railway line linking its border with China to boost bilateral trade.

The rail line will extend from Shan state's capital Lashio in north-eastern Myanmar to Jiegao in China's Yunnan province. It is expected to cost $500m.

The rail track tracing work for the project has been carried out and the railway station will be located at Sone Kwe village, near Lashio-Muse Union Road.

The Muse border is one of five trade points linking Myanmar and China and business in the area currently depends on cars and trucks.
