UK Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis has announced a new £50m fund to improve the ten worst railway stations in the country.
The stations listed as the worst include Clapham Junction, Barking, Stockport, Manchester Victoria, Preston, Wigan North Western, Liverpool Central, Warrington Bank Quay, Crewe and Luton.
The stations have been identified by 'Station Champions', former Virgin Trains chief executive Chris Green and Town and Country Planning Association president Sir Peter Hall, appointed by Adonis in May 2009 to carry out the stations' review.
The selected stations will be renovated for facilities such as car and bike parking.
The new fund is in addition to rail operator Network Rail's recent announcement of €3.25m to be spent on station improvements across the country.
