Casablanca Orders Alstom Citadis Trams

19 November 2009

The Moroccan city of Casablanca's public transport operator Casa Transports has selected Alstom to supply 74 Citadis trams for the city's under-construction tramway network.

The trams, coupled in double units, will be used on a 30km line crossing the city from east to west.

The order is worth €120m and includes an option for more trainsets that could bring the contract amount up to over €190m.

The rail line is expected to carry up to 250,000 passengers daily.

The delivery of the fleet is scheduled to begin two years after the contract becomes effective, with the commercial service slated for December 2012.
