UK rail operator Network Rail has announced a massive £3.25bn plan to renovate railway stations across the country.
The plan involves revamping over 2,000 stations over the next five years with investments ranging from tens of thousands of pounds to tens of millions.
Renovations will include installing new passenger information systems, lifts, stairways, toilets, waiting rooms and shelters, as well as refurbishing platforms, ticket offices, lighting and CCTV systems.
Some of the major planned improvements include £100m+ for Birmingham New Street, Blackfriars, Edinburgh Waverley, King's Cross and London Bridge, over £20m for Farringdon, Cannon Street and Paddington, and £10m+ for Bromsgrove, Leicester, Oxford and Putney rail stations.
The operator will begin a three-month survey later in November to know what passengers want at stations, following which a wider review on stations will be carried out over the next 12 months.
